One of the three North African countries that recently freed itself from dictatorship, Libya shares many characteristics with its neighbors Tunisia and Egypt.  But its history of Italian colonial rule, followed by a brief monarchy and the protracted dictatorship of Mu`ammar al-Qadhdhafi, make it unique.  Professor Sonn will share insights gathered on a recent trip to the former Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriyya.
